Develop Learn and Achieve

Our primary aim is to increase the level of basketball participation and ultimately create a local community team.

Based around ABC (Agility, Balance and Co-Ordination), we provide coaching sessions that improve fitness, flexibility, shooting, dribbling, passing, individual and team playing, understanding the fundamentals and rules of the game and more.

We are a Club for All and endorse inclusion. We engage and develop young players confidence and skill levels whilst having fun.

Our Coaching Staff

Our Coaching Staff are EB (England Basketball) L1, L2 and L3 qualified with additional FULL CRB checks when working with young people.

Our volunteer coaches have a mixture of playing experiences from the RAF (Royal Air Force), local league and National League as well as coaching at Junior, Women and Men competition levels.

As a club we are always looking for additional coaches and believe in developing all our volunteer coaches which in turn provides flexible and fresh coaching sessions for all our young participants with varying skill levels by attending seminars, workshops and other development courses.

Winford David, former RAF and National League player is currently an EB L3 qualified coach

My playing career began in Deighton under coach Jim Mahoney, progressing from the Junior Devils through to the senior Demons teams winning all Huddersfield and West Yorkshire Junior titles at U16 and U18 and Senior levels.

I left Huddersfield and played for Thames Valley Tigers U23 and Swindon Sonics. On joining the RAF I went on to represent and captain the RAF team overseas in Hong Kong, Germany, Cyprus and the USA. My achievements include MVP, Sports Personality and playing for the Combined (Army, Navy, RAF) services team.

My coaching experience has been brilliant to date, coaching Deighton Men and Women teams in the Huddersfield and West Yorkshire leagues, reaching the Cup and Plate finals in my first season. I also coached the Huddersfield Heat U16 EBL team.

My coaching is now all about passing on my experiences and developing our own local grassroots players in to competent and confident junior basketball players. I am having so much fun coaching our young players, the sessions are fun and responsive, the players are friendly and courteous, the management team are very supportive, I hope and see big things happening for DDABBS.

Justin Hampson, SSCO (School Sports Co-Ordinator)
and currently an EB L1 qualified coach.

My coaching experience before basketball was coaching Junior football. I switched to coaching basketball because I love the game, its diversity and because I can encourage and make an immediate impact to all the primary and junior school children within the Scissett pyramid.

Some of my junior coaching work is evident to see when I take some of our kids that train every week to play in competitions against older kids. Their skill level and confidence is growing every week, by the time they reach High School they will have a tremendous head start on a lot of kids in their age group.

Volunteer Coaches

We have other EB L2 qualified coaches available when work commitments and studies permits, and 4 former Shelley College players with EB L1 qualifications that help with DDABBS after school clubs and Out Of Hours, Saturday coaching sessions, demonstrating DDABBS commitment to junior development and depth of the club.
